The Fifth Toy Story Film Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 anniversary after the first Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received Andy's toys when he grew up — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the teaser avoids is why Woody is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting giveaway items locate loving owners.
Certainly, Pixar will explain the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the badge attached to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
